Make your own natural, skin nourishing soap - good for you, good for the earth and so much fun to make!

In this artisan workshop Rebecca will teach you how to create your own natural soap loaf using the traditional cold process method. Rebecca will show you how to safely work with lye which is essential in the soap making process, mix your ingredients and incorporate aromatic essential oil blends and beautiful botanicals. The best part about making your own soap is that you know exactly what goes into your soap and onto your skin, the cold process method preserves the therapeutic properties of the essential oils making it a perfect addition to your daily routine or a beautiful gift for your loved ones.

Once you understand the principles of cold process soap making you will be able to continue to make your own soap at home using the premium silicon mould that we will give you to take home.

What you will learn:

  • Working knowledge of the cold process soap making method,
  • How to safely work with Lye (caustic soda) which is essential to the soap making method,
  • How to add essential oils and botanicals while preserving their properties,
  • Which tools and equipment you will need to continue making soap at home
  • How to de-mould, cut, store & cure your soap.

Venue:

Made by Me Workshop
Upstairs 206 Australia Street, Newtown NSW 2042

We ask all participants to meet us out the front of the downstairs store at the start of the workshop so that we can check you in before escorting you upstairs. We usually run multiple workshops in a day and need the time ahead each workshop to get set up for you.

Price: $190

What you get:

We will provide everything you need to create an entire loaf of soap including a beautiful selection of oils and body butters as well as Rebecca's favourite range of essential oils, clays and botanicals to personalise your soap. Your soap loaf can then be cut down to make approximately 8–12 beautiful handmade bars. Because your soap will need to cure for a further 1 - 3 days in your premium silicon mould which is yours to keep and reuse to make many more loafs of soap at home. Once sliced your soap bars will need a further 4 weeks to fully cure before using.

We will provide you with a handout with essential soap making information, supplier details and Rebecca's favourite soap making recipe so that you can continue to explore soap making at home.

There is no need to bring anything except for a bag to carry home your soap in its mould and a towel to keep it warm.

SAFETY NOTE: Lye is an incredibly strong chemical that requires extreme caution. Because of this, we recommend wearing a long-sleeved shirt, pants and enclosed shoes. Please don't worry we will teach you how to handle it safely so you won't have any issues.

We believe craft is as much about creativity as it is about connection, in our workshops you have the opportunity to meet new friends, share a few stories, laugh with each other and simply enjoy some time out for yourself. We have coffee and tea making facilities as well as a few snacks to sustain you through the workshop but if you prefer your caffeine made by a barista you can pick one up on your way in from one of the neighbouring cafes.

Because of the use of chemicals this class is not recommended for pregnant women or children under the age of 16 years.

Cancellation Policy: You can reschedule your class with up to 3 days notice. We do not refund classes but you are welcome to send someone else in your place if you can't make it on the day. In most of our workshops we require a minimum number of people to run the workshop and will do our absolute best to run every workshop we list but occasionally it is not commercially feasible to do so. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we may cancel the class; in this case, we'll inform you and allow you to get a full refund or reschedule.
