Drawing With Scissors Workshop with Sophie Cooper
Made By Me WorkshopUnleash your inner artist and explore the use of painted paper to create collages!
The workshop starts with an introduction to artists and illustrators who use this technique, and then you will create your own painted collage papers. You will then ‘draw with scissors’ exploring layering using painted textures and different colour palettes to create your own designs. You will be encouraged to experiment and explore your creativity throughout the workshop. You can follow templates or create your own designs - the choice is yours.
Drawing with Scissors is a technique used by the French artist Henri Matisse to create lines and shapes with coloured paper. Matisse began to explore collage using painted sheets of paper and cut into intricate shapes and forms in his 70s as his health restricted him from painting. Perfect for artists of all levels seeking a fun and enjoyable way to explore your imagination. This workshop is beginner-friendly, perfect for anyone seeking a creative outlet or experienced artists looking to push their creative boundaries.
Sophie, your teacher, is a graphic designer, illustrator, educator, and maker and owner of Scoops Design. When she is not working in her studio, Sophie is teaching in Visual Communication at University. She loves sharing her knowledge about drawing, typography, and image-making with students.
