Create a Double-Sided Drum Lampshade with Your Choice of Fabrics Inside and Out!

Learn how to make your own lined drum lampshade — featuring fabric on both the inside and outside — in this hands-on workshop with Kate Malfroy from The Lampshade Workroom.

Kate’s modern shade-making technique skips the old-fashioned hand-sewing and gets you confidently creating a professional-quality lampshade in just a few hours. You’ll head home with a completely unique piece that reflects your personal style and a solid grounding in the craft of modern lampshade making.

This class is perfect for anyone who loves creative, hands-on projects or has previously made a standard (unlined) lampshade and is ready to take things a little further. Confident beginners are very welcome — you’ll be guided step by step through every stage of the process.

You’ll bring along two fabrics — one for the outer and one for the inner lining — and discover how each combination transforms the finished effect. In a lined lampshade, light shines out from the top and bottom, illuminating the interior fabric. The lining becomes the star when the lamp is on — metallics, patterns or textures can all create a stunning glow.

Kate will share her expert tips and techniques to help you achieve a beautiful result, and you’ll leave with both the skills and confidence to keep creating at home. Take-home kits will also be available if you’d like to make a matching pair or experiment with new shapes and sizes later.

We’ll have tea, coffee and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the session — or grab a barista-made coffee from Aslan Café just up the road before you arrive.

Cancellation Policy: Due to the limited number of spaces for workshops, all bookings are final and strictly non refundable. We do not refund classes but you are welcome to send someone else in your place if you can't make it on the day. Since Kate is a special guest teacher it is not possible to reschedule the workshop to another day. In most of our workshops we require a minimum number of people to run the workshop and will do our absolute best to run every workshop we list but occasionally it is not commercially feasible to do so. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we may cancel the class; in this case, we'll inform you and allow you to get a full refund or reschedule.
